Our BIG SING was an attempt to break the World Record for the biggest number of children singiong the same song at the same time!! Our song was 'You Gotta Be' and we sang it with superstar Des'ree on a 'live' feed from the O2 Arena in London. We will soon be told if we broke the World Record by the people at the Guinness Book of World Records. For more photos and video clips go to Breaking News on our website!!
Our PTFA is a very busy group of parents who always try to provide our pupils with exciting fund-raising events - our annual Mother's Day Gift Sale is their latest offering!! Always massively popular with our pupils, it gives them the chance to purchase quality gifts at knock-down prices!! Thank you to our PTFA mums who ran the day and good luck with your super gifts on Sunday children!!
Exactly one year ago today our Year 6 children were sitting their final SAT's test paper in the morning before jetting off to China on an 8 day performance tour to our partner school in Beijing - AnZhen No.1 Primary School!! Today only 5 of the 12 members of the cast of 'The Statue of the Ancient Hero' are still pupils at Peterbrook - they were in Year 5 then - Demia, Charlotte, Megan, Saffron and Tyler. Our PTFA work very hard to provide our pupils with fun-packed, exciting activities to do which also raise money for school funds in the process!! This was our first 'Ice Skating' event and our Junior Hall was transformed into a superb 'ice' skating arena for our pupils, families and friends to enjoy!! Today saw our second School Improvement Pupil Conference for all of those pupils in our school who hold positions of responsibility ie. School Councillors, Peer Mediators and Housecaptains. After a busy day of keynote speeches, workshops, and discussion groups a 'long' list of school improvement suggestions was created. Our pupils then engaged in a 'short' listing exercise where negotiation and compromise were the main criteria for working. Our long list of over 60 suggestions was short-listed to just 10 suggestions, and after a period of presentation and delegate voting this short list became a final list of just 6 main recommendations for school improvement which will now go forward into the adult School Improvement Conference and finally onto our Full Governing Body. What a fabulous fund-raising day for a worthy cause has been planned and prepared for by the hard-working members of our School Council. There has been singing, dancing and painting for a whole day!! Let's listen to how we started our big day with the singing of the 'Red Nose Day' song 'We're doing something funny for the money!' RED NOSE DAY 2009 will be a 'Big'n'Baggy' Day at Peterbrook as we engage in singing, dancing and painting activities to raise money for a good cause. This podcast is a rehearsal track for our School Choir who are busily learning the fab RND 2009 official song. Our choir will sing the song to launch our 'Big'n'Baggy' Day on 13 March!! Miss Hills is our curriculum subject leader for Personal & Social Development and our SEAL Programmes (Social & Emotional Aspects of Learning). Every week in our school year we are following special SEAL units which help us to be happy, enjoy our learning and develop as caring young people. We finish each half-termly unit with a special SEAL Celebration Assembly where we celebrate our SEAL achievements, receive special SEAL Awards and have fun!! Today a group of our most talented and enthusiastic singers visited the Alzheimers Society Day Care Centre. An appreciative audience thoroughly enjoyed the following three songs from their programme: 'Away in a Manger', 'Silent Night' and 'I wish it could be Christmas everyday!'
Coming to school each day is important whatever your age - we come to learn but we also come to enjoy ourselves and make happy memories!! Our FKS Christmas show this year was 'Tinsel' and Radio Peterbrook has contributed towards that 'making happy memories' process. ENJOY!!
There are times as a teacher when you know you are witnessing something special - an achievement by children which goes way beyond the norm - something unique. Today was such a time when forty of our Year 5&6 children performed in Mell Square Solihull, at the inaugural Chinese New Year celebrations for the town. In freezing weather our pupils looked amazing and sang in Mandarin Chinese a very difficult Chinese New Year song in front of hundreds of people. Their singing was simultaneously broadcast 'live' by BRMB Radio across the whole of the West Midlands region. It was a stunning achievement and our pupils are a credit to their school, their parents and families and most of all, to themselves!!
