As a 'Healthy School' we like to take every opportunity, both within and beyond the curriculum to reinforce our message of 'Healthy Eating - Healthy Living'. Today is the turn of our Year 5 Food Technologists as they 'design and bake' their own individual breads!!Hummm!! Smell those loaves!!
In Year 4, we are very lucky to have special music lessons, taught to us by the Solihull Music Service. During this term our children have been taught how to play the African drums by a very talented teacher, Mr. Blick. Both Year 4 classes, have learnt a series of songs and rhythms. Our four pieces were presented to Years 1,2 and 5 as well as the parents of the children involved in drumming.
Our PTFA work very hard to provide our pupils with fun-packed, exciting activities to do which also raise money for school funds in the process!! This was our first 'Ice Skating' event and our Junior Hall was transformed into a superb 'ice' skating arena for our pupils, families and friends to enjoy!! Why not visit BREAKING NEWS on our main website to view the superb photographs and video clips as our fantastic skaters cut their curves on their blades. ENJOY!!
As you may know, Peterbrook has been designated as a 'Gold Artsmark' school by Arts Council England for the quality and variety of the arts activities we provide our children both within the curriculum and beyond it. Today saw yet another set of happy memories being created as our Year 4 children performed on our front playground to their parents and the rest of the school, a fabulous programme of Samba drumming with Louise, their drum teacher. It was an extremely polished performance - well done children!!
Our PTFA is a very busy group of parents who always try to provide our pupils with exciting fund-raising events - our annual Mother's Day Gift Sale is their latest offering!! Always massively popular with our pupils, it gives them the chance to purchase quality gifts at knock-down prices!! Thank you to our PTFA mums who ran the day and good luck with your super gifts on Sunday children!!
A few weeks ago our pupils in Year 5 baked bread in Food Technology. They enjoyed it so much that they decided to write, for homework, funny stories involving bread, dough, breadcrumbs, crusts, etc. The outcome was amazing, with the result that several funny stories were linked together to create a crazy bread radio news bulletin!! The character of Dr. Dark became the central figure for the whole piece, and after scripting, rehearsing, recording and editing, the children decided that they would like to broadcast their 'newsflash' on Wednesday 1st April, to the whole school - 'April Fool's Day' - TODAY!! Mr. McGaw set the scene and created the 'serious' backdrop for a series of 'bread incidents' to take place!! Our audience of 400+ children sighed with relief when they realised it was just a funny game by Year 5. The broadcast is really well performed by our 10 pupil radio actors and Miss Hills!! Enjoy!!
Year 3 have been working hard on their latest Quest- to design a sensory garden, which is accessible for disabled people and their friends. Listen to their ideas.
